In 2016, Governor Larry Hogan proclaimed September 11th through October 10th as Day to Serve in Maryland. For this year’s Day to Serve, we joined First Lady Yumi Hogan at the Ulman House to prepare a large Korean dinner for the patients.
The Ulman House offers free housing to caregivers and young adult cancer patients (ages 15-39) who undergo treatment in Baltimore. USABAL Solution’s founder, Bob Zhang, along with staff members Riz and Angel cooked up scallion and seafood pancakes, bulgogi, fried tofu, potato noodles, seaweed and rice.
First Lady Yumi Hogan listened to residents’ stories and served dishes. The story of Ulman House residents is an important cause for First Lady Hogan because her husband, Governor Larry Hogan, started battling lymphatic cancer in 2015. As an accomplished artist adjunct art instructor, First Lady Hogan also reminded residents of the importance of the arts during difficult times.
USABAL Solutions is dedicated to serving our local community, and we’re looking forward to our next volunteer opportunity!
