This past October 27th, USABAL Solutions founder and manager, Bob Zhang, presented his virtual workshop “Establishing Web Presence” as an installment in the series of events organized by UMBC and the Alex Brown Center for Entrepreneurship and Innovation. These workshops provide insight from experts to share it with the students interested in creating a business.
“We are now more connected than ever. It can be overwhelming” Zhang opened his presentation by emphasizing the importance of maintaining a web presence in our increasingly connected society. With about 60% of the world’s population connected to the internet, the way you portray yourself on online platforms has become an essential part of building a successful business.
With a special focus on web presence building, the workshop touched on the main things to consider to create an effective website that will be the base that supports all your other marketing efforts. The topics included:
- Importance of domain name
- How to choose a website hosting
- Which CMS is best for your needs
- Aspects to consider in website design
- Content strategy
- Marketing strategy
- Website globalization
- Importance of utilizing analytics to track KPIs
Using simple analogies to illustrate various relevant concepts, Zhang explained to the audience that the specific web strategy for your business will depend on your needs and budget, as his years working in the industry have shown him. The presentation included a list of tools to jumpstart website creation, with resources like W3C and Wix.
The presentation ended with a strategy design exercise using a simulated business as an example and a round of questions to further engage with the participants and clear up any doubts.
